Andover — Join us on October 12, 2012 in the ballroom at the Wyndham Hotel, Andover, and be rocked with the laughter as the Rotary Club of Andover holds its Second Annual Comedy Night.
The evening will feature four well-known area comedians (to be annouced)and will once again be hosted by Dave Rattigan, who also produces theshow under his Scamp Comedy company.
Last year, when the laughter finally died away, the Club had raised more than $7,500, to help fund its many community service projects throughout the Merrimack Valley, including a digital white board to be used in the Andover school system, scholarships for Andover residents, support for local non-profit charities and a Rotary exchange student program that this year includes sending an Andover student to Denmark and hosting a student from France.
"The evening was a terrific success —for attendees, and for Andover Rotary and its many projects!" Club President Al Getler said about hte 2011 event. "People have already asked the date for next year’s event and I am happy to say we are already planning with the comedians and the Wyndham Hotel.”
So the plans are set for 2012. Mark your calendar, but your tickets and join us on October 12, 2012!
Update: This Year's Line-Up
2012 Rotary Club of Andover Comedy Night Line-up
Jim Colliton's sharp observations about home and family life have landed him on Comedy Central, Comcast Comedy Spotlight, Ed McMahon's Next Big Star, and on XM Satellite radio, which put his CD on its playlist. His CD also caught the attention of the "Just Folks Awards," which named his CD the best of 2009. His clean, conversational style has made him a favorite at colleges, cruise ships and clubs -- including high-profile comedy spots such as the Tropicana Casino in Las Vegas, New York City's Comic Strip Live, and Mohegan Sun. If you have ever been embarrassed about the contents of your recycling bin or tried to kill a flying bat in your house, you will find Colliton’s comedy hilarious. If none of these experiences hit home, Jim has also stolen a school bus. Everyone finds that story funny.
One of the funniest observational humorists in Boston, Stephen Bjork has gone cross-country as a headliner, performing at clubs such as The Improv in Las Vegas, Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, Hilarities in Orlando, Florida, Crackers in Indianapolis, Indiana, and several more. He's shared the stage with acts including Dane Cook, Steven Wright, Dom Irrerra, Dave Chappelle, Gilbert Gottfried, Joe Rogan, Dana Gould and Tommy Chong. He also once opened for the legendary musical group The Platters. In recent years, he's focused on spending more time in New England, working clubs, fundraisers and private shows for companies. His PG-13 rated act is a favorite for corporate audiences.
Since 1991, Steve Calechman has performed across the country in and on every possible conveyance – clubs, colleges, roadside bars, boats, ladders, a zoo – earning laughs in every location. The Boston native has appeared with the likes of Louie C.K., Bobcat Goldthwait, Sarah Silverman and Steven Wright. He was in The Proposal with Sandra Bullock, has been a correspondent for the New England Patriots online show and is the announcer for the Boston Lobsters tennis team. In that capacity, he’s touched Billie Jean King’s hair (well-conditioned) and given Martina Navratilova a nickname (Top Cat). He’s also a talented writer, and a contributing editor for Men’s Health magazine.
Dave Rattigan returns as host of this year’s show. One of Boston's busiest comedians, he performs at top clubs and other venues, writes humorous columns and essays, and has acted in commercials and independent films. Last summer, he created a web series called Post Office Golf League. Previously, he co-created and produced the popular themed-standup show How Men Think (Or Do They?), and has also developed a two-hour corporate seminar that is part-standup, part improv and focuses on the health benefits of laughter. Standup fans have heard his Dave Rattigan: Thinks He's Funny CD on XM-Sirius Satellite Radio and English-speaking radio syndicates around the globe. In addition to all that, he runs Scamps Comedy Productions (scampscomedy.com), a boutique agency that produces first-class comedy shows, specializing in comedy night fundraisers and corporate and private shows.
